Job Description

As an Operational Risk Analyst, you’ll impact the lives of everyday people and help them go from surviving to thriving with innovative digital personal finance solutions. You will primarily responsible to be part of the team that provides for the “First Line of Defense” in Lending Operations and ongoing governance of operational risk frameworks. Areas of focus include but are not limited to: effective challenge, compliance, issue management (tracking, remediation and completion). This position is a key participant in the identifying and resolution of issues and actions with business unit leaders, and monitoring is in place to identify improvements in processes and procedures. Additionally, the Operational Risk Analyst will be primarily responsible for managing the HMDA reporting function within First Line and in collaboration with the Enterprise Risk and Compliance team. Other areas of focus can include, support for audit and exam requests internally and/or from external regulators, partner banks, or other auditors with full support from Lending Operation leadership.

What you’ll do: 

  • Partner with business leaders, subject matter experts, Control, Compliance, Ops Risk, Legal, and other personal loans or home loans lines of business to identify self-identified Issues, or respond to issues from Enterprise Compliance and Risk Management (including audit/exams), coordinate and perform root cause analysis, corrective action plan development and ensure subsequent mitigation of risk and gaps through what is delivered in the corrective actions.
  • Work broadly across the organization to deliver accurate and timely audit samples in support of either internal or external audit/exam activities. Ensure audit sampling is well defined, understood, and provided in such a manner that meets the criteria of both the auditors and the Enterprise Risk and Compliance organization. Interact with teams in each of the Operations, Compliance, Reporting organizations as well as Executive leadership.
  • Analyze results, either internal or external, on the accuracy of reporting, the speed and accuracy by which issues are permanently resolved, and the ability to drive quality control activities across the Lending Operations.
  • Execute the requirements of HMDA reporting, which include data validation, identification of systemic issues, updating data in the system of record as needed and submitting the file to the CFPB
  • Make recommendations for improvement. Identify best practices, leverage reporting agencies and available industry data, to improve internal processes
  • Identify, prioritize, and work with the data reporting team to build any and all additional reporting in support of HMDA, or those that result from action plans or audits/exams. Ensure regular and timely production of this reporting.
  • Proactive engagement with control functions to ensure understanding of the First Line of Defense governance program.

Qualifications

What you’ll bring:

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience
  • 3-5 years of experience working in a risk or auditing function,
  • HMDA process and validation experience within a lending organization
  • Experience within a lending call center operation, either originations, customer service, or collections related activities
  • Experience identifying gaps, risks, control breaks, opportunities to streamline business processes, and implementing change.
  • Knowledge and understanding of consumer loan-related remediation policy, process, and procedures.
  • Knowledge and understanding of regulatory compliance requirements surrounding the financial services industry.
  • Advanced analytic skills; able to work with data, to understand and interpret trending, and to be able to recommend appropriate solutions based on analysis.
  • An inquisitive mind; able to consider the many sides of an issue, asking probing questions, and ability to reach conclusions that are actionable.
  • Exceptionally strong interpersonal skills and communication, both written and verbal.
  • Proven ability to identify and execute process improvements.
  • Demonstrated ability to work in cross-functional organization

PREFERRED SKILLS:

  • Must be able to multitask; this role will require an ability to manage a vastly diverse set of initiatives.
  • Must be able to stay organized while working on multiple projects.
  • Strong knowledge of PC skills in the Microsoft and Google product line including: Word, & Excel, Gsheets, Gdocs, etc.
  • Strong knowledge of PC based programs – ability to learn quickly.
  • Ability to process map within BPMN 2.0 standards.
  • Mortgage Compliance, QA experience preferred including fair lending.
